Jermell Charlo has the opportunity to exact revenge over Tony Harrison when they meet once again for the WBC super-welterweight title this Saturday night at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.
The two fighters face off once again almost exactly a year to the date of their first encounter, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, where Harrison unanimously albeit controversially outpointed the champion after twelve rounds of action, taking his title and previously undefeated record in the process.
Charlo immediately expressed his disdain for the judges’ scorecards, and is promising to deliver a more emphatic display this time around in order to reclaim his world championship.
In their first encounter, Charlo was the aggressor throughout but was somewhat frustrated at times by Harrison’s defensive, counterpunching approach.
However, in spite of this, the majority of ringside observers believed Charlo’s efforts were sufficient to secure victory, and were left slightly surprised when the challenger had his hands raised after twelve rounds.
Charlo found the mark in the final round with some powerful punching, and will be looking to close the chapter on Harrison in the explosive fashion that has characterised so many of his recent triumphs.
Harrison, meanwhile, will have other ideas and will come into this fight harbouring a huge amount of confidence in his ability to do the double over his counterpart.
Ultimately. expect an intriguing, tactical affair from which Charlo pulls away slightly in the middle rounds before pummelling Harrison into submission later on in the fight, if he does not win convincingly on the scorecards.
