Top Rank signs Monaco star Micallef

Top Rank has added to its roster of talented, international fighters with the signature of Monaco’s star amateur Hugo Micallef.

Micallef will turn pro as a 140-pounder on the undercard of Tony Yoka’s heavyweight confrontation with Peter Milas in Paris on September 10.

With over 100 amateur victories to his name, Micallef illustrated his rich promise with a win over leading American Delante Johnson at the Boxam Elite International tournament in Spain last year whilst on his way to a silver medal. He will be coached by Carlos Formento, who has worked previously with former IBF welterweight king Kell Brook and ex-world title challenger Anthony Yigit.

“Hugo has everything it takes to be a superstar in the sport,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum. “His amateur pedigree is extensive, and I believe he’ll usher in a generation of pro boxing in the Principality of Monaco.”

Micallef, who can count Albert II, Prince of Monaco, among his supporters, added: “It’s a tremendous honour to be signed by the best promotional company in the business. I have dreamed of this moment. I’m ready for the start of my professional journey, and I hope to one day bring a world title back home to Monaco.”
