Gennady Golovkin has pleased a lot of fans by accepting and taking on a fight against Canelo Alvarez. But apparently the Kazakh’s main focus is to get all belts and unify the middleweight division. He has high hopes of becoming the undisputed 160 champion in the world but before that, he needs to take care of business with Canelo.
“I think we have two options [after this fight]. The first option is a rematch. And the second option – I want all belts. I want all belts in the middleweight division, it’s my dream,” Golovkin told TMZ.
This of course would mean that Golovkin is willing to fight against Billy Joe Saunders. The WBO middleweight champion is set to face his mandatory challenger Avtandil Khurtsidze on July 8th at the Copper Box Arena in London.
Saunders had hopes of fighting Golovkin earlier this year but that didn’t come fruition because of the Canelo-fight. According to his own words, Saunders is more than ready to take on Golovkin.
“I’m willing to go to Kazakhstan and have the fight,” said Saunders in an interview with the Daily Star back in March.
If Saunders can get past his mandatory challenger and Golovkin takes care of Canelo – it’s highly likely that a fight between these two will most definitely happen.
