Earlier this week Tyson Fury’s promoter revealed a ‘game changing’ fight for his man would be announced within the next few weeks.
Fury has been linked to a host of heavyweights since a fight against unified champion, Oleksandr Usyk, fell apart earlier this year. A search for a summer dance partner has become drawn out for the WBC champion, but this week Warren, who has promoted Fury since his comeback in 2018, said they were close to a huge announcement.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Warren said:
“It’ll be a bit of a game-changer in a couple of weeks’ time. It’ll be a massive game-changer and it’s gonna be interesting to see the fallout from it.
You’ll find out in a couple of weeks. I guarantee you, you’ll say to me in a couple of weeks, ‘That’s a game-changer.’”
After that interview speculation grew that the man in the opposite corner would be former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou.
Rival promoter, Eddie Hearn, has now revealed to Boxing Social what he’s heard about the event and believes fans are right that it will be Ngannou – but it won’t be a professional boxing event and that a ‘no knockdown’ rule might be in place.
“Yes, I believe so [It will be Francis Ngannou], this is what I’ve heard. It will apparently be an exhibition, no knockdowns or anything – I don’t know, I’m only telling you what I’ve heard and that is apparently going to be the next fight.
Disappointing, but it is what it is. It’ll be a big event but I wanted to see him fight Usyk, it would be nice to get an undisputed champion, but Tyson is in charge of his own career and I’m sure he’s going to make a load of money and good luck to him.”
Final news on Fury’s ‘game-changing’ contest is expected in the coming weeks, with a target date of September and likely location of London.
