WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has laughed off unified king Anthony Joshua’s suggestion that he will ‘smoke’ the Manchester man if they eventually meet in the ring.
Joshua and Fury appeared close to a two-fight deal to meet for the undisputed heavyweight crown earlier this year, before an arbitration hearing ruled that Deontay Wilder was entitled to a trilogy bout with WBC champion Fury.
Anthony Joshua now defends his WBA Super, WBO and IBF titles against Ukrainian maestro Oleksandr Usyk on September 25 in London, while Fury’s WBC title defence against Deontay Wilder is slated for October 9 in Las Vegas.
Speaking to Gary Neville on The Overlap, Fury appeared unimpressed with Anthony Joshua’s comments regarding a potential undisputed heavyweight bout between the pair.
“AJ couldn’t smoke a cigarette, never mind the ‘Gypsy King’,” Fury said. “I will absolutely annihilate that bodybuilder. That’s why Eddie Hearn’s been steering around me for the past ten years.
“Eddie Hearn is a proper southern w***er. What has he ever achieved in his life? He goes around like he’s a champion, but he ain’t. He’s a businessman. There’s plenty of them, but only one real heavyweight champion – that’s me.”
