Tyson Fury in Denial Over Oleksandr Usyk Fights — Explains Retirement & Comeback

Former two-time heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury has again declared he “won both fights against Oleksandr Usyk” while appearing on The Ring Magazine’s Mr. Verzace podcast.

Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) suffered the first defeats of his professional career in back-to-back clashes with Usyk — initially for the undisputed heavyweight championship in May, 2024, before a rematch seven months later for the WBA, WBC, and WBO titles.

Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) secured a narrow split-decision victory in their first encounter and followed it up with a unanimous decision win in the do-over. Fury announced a retirement from boxing one month later.

“I didn’t feel like I was getting what I deserved,” Fury said.

“I thought I won both those fights with Usyk clearly!”

“I didn’t get any of the decisions, so I thought f*** this, I’m out of here. I’m not being used and abused by anybody. I’m The Gypsy King. I make my own decisions and I’m in charge of my own destiny.

“What did I do? I went away and made my documentary series, At Home with the Furys, a documentary on Tyson Fury, all on Netflix. I was away for a while, but I’m back now.”

While Fury was out of the ring, Usyk reclaimed his undisputed status with a devastating fifth-round knockout over Daniel Dubois. He has since been stripped of his WBO title, which is now held by Fabio Wardley.

Fury is now scheduled to return to the ring against Russia’s Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 11.

“I managed England for UNICEF,” Fury added. “I traveled the world with my family. I enjoyed some private jets and automobiles, ate some nice food, but it’s boring. The fight game is what I love to do. So I made the decision to come back and do a fight, and here we are.

“I was very busy all the time [in retirement]. I was filming two TV shows — a documentary which took eight months to film and a reality TV show which took about ten months to film. The whole of 2025 was taken up, along with other events I had to do. I was very, very busy.”

The Fury vs Makhmudov event airs on Netflix. The rest of the fight card is yet to be announced.
