Tyson Fury has spoken out about a potential mega fight with Anthony Joshua, and has reaffirmed his claim that he would still be willing to fight his fellow Brit for free.
Speaking to IFL TV, Fury reiterated the stance he took a few months ago, and said money would be no object for him in making the generational domestic clash.
“I’ll fight Joshua free of charge, no problem.”
“The money is irrelevant, you can’t take it with you and I couldn’t spend what I’ve earned in 50 lifetimes. So what good is it?”
“I’m still the same old G, I’ve got a free shirt on, a free suit and a pair of trainers from f***ing ASDA! So what does it matter?”
Fans could be forgiven for taking the WBC world champion’s comments with a pinch of salt, given his contradictory statements regarding the ‘AJ’ fight over the past few years.
Still, the optimists among them will be hoping for Josua to return to winning ways in 2023 and meet Fury towards the tail end for a domestic dust up.
As for now, an undisputed meeting with unified world champion Oleksandr Usyk seems most likely to be next for Fury, with talks between the two camps said to be progressing well towards a date in the first quarter of 2023.
The Ukrainian was ringside for Fury’s stoppage victory over Derek Chisora earlier this month and ascended to the ring apron for a face off with ‘The Gypsy King’ that sent excitement for a potential fight into overdrive.
Promoter Frank Warren has stated in recent interviews that a fight between Fury and Usyk would land wherever it generates most revenue, with a lucrative site fee from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to stage the contest already reportedly received.
Fury’s Queensberry stablemate Joe Joyce also got involved in the post fight fracas with the two world champions at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and is favourite to face Fury should a bout with Usyk not materialise.
Despite those two intriguing match ups on the horizon for ‘The Gypsy King’, the Joshua fight still lingers on the minds of fans as one they want to see before both men hang up the gloves. In terms of negotiations, perhaps it’ll be third time lucky.
