Frank Warren has sent a message directly to Anthony Joshua – fight Tyson Fury in the UK this year for the fans.
It was Groundhog Day for the boxing world recently when Fury offered Joshua a fight this September. As with last time, nothing has materialised, the offer reportedly rejected by Joshua’s side.
Warren, Fury’s promoter, isn’t giving up just yet, as per iFL TV.
“A Message to Anthony Joshua – please reconsider, please do that fight for the boxing fans, let’s do that fight. I really would love to see it, all the fans would love to see it.
Let’s do it, the terms are not a problem because we agreed them, let’s try and make it happen. I know your team have said no, but I’m not one that ever gives up on things so I’m hoping that we can get it over the line because everybody would love to see it, we all want it to happen in the UK.”
Given the collapse of negotiations last year and on at least one other occasion in the past, fans will perhaps forgive ‘AJ’ for sticking with the plan his team have been working on in the background.
He’s set to have a fight in August – opponent as yet unknown but still rumoured to be Dillian Whyte – before entering the ring against another former world champion, Deontay Wilder, in Saudi Arabia.
The Brit’s purse for that winter fight will be eye-watering, and all news from behind the scenes say that it’s pretty much nailed on – certainly enough to not let a potential Fury fight sway him
It leaves ‘The Gypsy King’ without an opponent until he can re-enter discussions to face Oleksandr Usyk later in the year. Warren says they are ‘exhausting all options’ to change that.
