Tyson Fury is no stranger to Deontay Wilder. He has shared an incredible trilogy with the American, however after back-to-back defeats ‘The Gypsy King’ has called for his old friend to retire.
Fury and Wilder met for the first time in 2018 in an enthralling battle, which ended in a controversial majority draw after the Brit had seemingly outboxed his opponent all fight despite being knocked down twice.
The pair did not meet again until 2020.
Fury became the first man to defeat Wilder after he produced an inspired performance to secure a stoppage victory.
The end to this modern day classic came a year later when after one of the best fights in heavyweight history, Fury secured a knockout victory in the eleventh round.
Since then, Wilder has lost twice more.
Once to Fury’s training partner, Joseph Parker and then to Zhilei Zhang when he was demolished in the fifth round.
There have been many calls within boxing for ‘The Bronze Bomber’ to retire after what has been an enthralling career.
Despite this, speaking on Pound 4 Pound Podcast, Fury has had his own say on what Wilder should do next.
“Being truthful, I’d like to see poor old Deontay retire from boxing.
“Obviously he lost the three fights to me. We took a lot of years off of each other’s lives.
“That war that ended in the 11th round by knockout, that takes a lot out your tank and you don’t recover from fights like that.
“Between me and Wilder in our trilogy there were ten knockdowns. It takes a lot out of a fighter.
“Even when he’s come back and had a couple of fights since against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, he’s only a shadow of his former glory.
“The only thing left of Deontay is his name. And that’s it. So I’d like to see him retire for sure before he does damage to himself.”
Fury has said that he thinks Wilder should retire from boxing.
This is because he does not believe he is the fighter he once was.
