Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter has poked at fun at Tyson Fury, suggesting that, now that an undisputed fight with Usyk is not taking place, he should finally honour his rematch clause with Wladimir Klitschko.
Fury famously outpointed Klitschko in Dusseldorf in 2015 to end his nine year reign as heavyweight champion of the world.
A rematch was due to take place, however the two never locked horns again after Fury withdrew from the sport on account of his well documented mental health struggles.
Speaking on Fighting On The Inside, Alex Krassyuk suggested that, eight years on from their first meeting, now could be the perfect time for ‘The Gypsy King’ to revisit a rematch with Klitschko.
“If he wants to fight for undisputed, maybe he’ll fight Claressa Shields.”
What’s his next step? I have a really great option for Tyson to recuperate his reputation.”
“He still owes a rematch to Wladimir Klitschko! There’s nothing to be scared of, Wladimir Klitschko is 47. Jump in, fight the old man and show us your b***s! Not physically, but show us how tough you are.”
Fans received devastating news this week, when members of both team Fury and team Usyk confirmed a historic undisputed fight would not be taking place on April 29th.
With the Fury fight now dead and buried, the masterful Ukrainian will instead look to take care of his mandatory obligations, potentially first against WBA Regular champion Daniel Dubois, who confirmed he will take the fight if offered.
It remains unclear as of yet who ‘The Gypsy King’ will face next, with the likes of Andy Ruiz Jr, Joe Joyce and even former UFC star Francis Ngannou all rumoured to be the running to land a shot at the lineal champion.
