Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois may be on different career paths at present but there remains interest in the two fighting one another again in the future.
In November 2020 inside the unique setting of Church House, Westminster the two Queensbury heavyweights fought out an absorbing contest for the British, Commonwealth and European titles.
Joyce prevailed stopping Dubois in the tenth round after the young contender couldn’t continue due to a fractured eye socket.
Dubois now holds the WBA ‘Regular’ title after bouncing back from his only defeat to date. Joyce, the WBO number one contender, is closing in on his first world title shot and was in action recently against Christian Hammer.
Their promoter Frank Warren has hopes of a rematch in the future, perhaps even outdoors at a stadium.
His son, and boxing manager, Francis told Boxing Social’s Ayman Khan the fight can get bigger and bigger the longer it’s left alone.
“I think like most of these domestic rivalries if you let it marinate for a bit, especially with the history then, yeah [it can happen].”
“The risk you run is both guys have to keep winning. As long as both guys keep winning that’s always an option for both guys. I think the longer it goes the bigger it’ll be and more titles at stake. I think it would be a fantastic rematch.”
A fighter that Joyce would love to challenge himself against is the current WBC Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
Since his last win against Dillian Whyte in April the ‘Gypsy King’ has retired and then hinted that he will unretire if he receives a worthwhile offer for something.
Frank Warren co-promotes Fury along with Top Rank and Francis says there is no expectation of the 31-year-old to return to boxing.
“I’ve said it a couple of times and I would never speak out of turn when it comes to Tyson, there’s no expectation. There’s a hope.”
“I admire the man and everyone else does. He’s nothing but an inspiration and an absolute one of a kind. I’ve love to see him out again but whatever Tyson does is down to Tyson. Fingers crossed he fights again. If not just enjoy everything else he does.”
