Frank Warren is confident that Tyson Fury can replicate his dominant February 2020 victory over Deontay Wilder in their trilogy fight.
Fury and American rival Wilder will engage a third time at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on October 9 after the clash was pushed back from July 24 following a Covid-19 outbreak in the Gypsy King’s training camp.
Warren, Fury’s UK promoter, believes that the biggest threat to the WBC heavyweight champion in October is himself after the Gypsy King dropped Wilder twice en route to an emphatic seven-round stoppage win 17 months ago.
But Fury and Wilder must, of course, do it again after an arbitrator enforced their previously contracted trilogy fight, scuppering the Mancunian’s proposed, undisputed title clash with Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia. With that mega-fight still in the pipeline for 2022, Fury can make no mistakes against Wilder in two-and-a-half months’ time.
“This is a fight [Fury] can’t afford to slip up on,” Warren told Queensberry Promotions’ ‘The Lockdown’ show on YouTube.
“I’ve been thinking about it a lot, the fight. And the only person who can beat Tyson is Tyson.
“That’s the only person who can beat him at the moment. So, providing he’s focused and he’s okay, I think he’ll do a job on WIlder.”
