The teams of Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have very much grown apart in the wake of the undisputed fight being postponed and now Frank Warren has fired more shots towards his opposites.
In a crazy 24 hours across the first weekend of February, it emerged that the undisputed fight on February 17 was off owning to a bad cut sustained by Fury in sparring, but before long a new date was announced for May 18.
Since then, speculation has run rife, plenty of wild theories have been banded about and there has been a war of words between fighters and representatives on both sides, while Fury’s USA promoter Bob Arum think the cut and the delay are a blessing in disguise.
Speaking to Boxing Social at the Hamzah Sheeraz and Liam Williams fight, Warren was asked whether there was any truth in the rumours from Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas that things are not great between Warren and Fury right now.
“Is this the same Egis Klimas who said that Tyson cut his eye on purpose? Next.”
He was asked how he felt when he heard the news.
“It was pretty awful, but that’s boxing. This fight tonight has been postponed. Last week, Buatsi and Azeez was postponed from last year. That’s boxing. People spar, throw shots, things happen. Some of the b******s the media comes out with is just beyond me.”
There are now just 12 weeks to go until the rearranged undisputed with people in both camps hoping things go more smoothly the second time around.
