Promoter Frank Warren says Anthony Yarde is likely to challenge the winner of June 18’s three-belt light-heavyweight unification bout between Artur Beterbiev and Joe Smith Jr.
Yarde sits at number one in the WBO rankings, with the WBO, IBF and WBC titles on the line when Beterbiev and Smith collide at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Warren, who promotes Yarde, says he has had conversations with Bob Arum about delivering a world title shot for the Brit in the UK later in the year.
“He’s going to go out for the Beterbiev-Smith fight, and he’ll get the winner,” Warren said. “I think he’s got a great, great chance of becoming world champion.
“I’ve been talking to Arum about doing the fight here. We want to do the fight here. If it’s October, it would probably be at the O2 or something like that.
“I don’t care where it is – get it on, let him do the business. He wins the fight, and we’re in there. Look at the fights we could put on – there’s some great fights to be made.”
