WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo was arrested on Friday.
Nicknamed ‘Hit Man’, the 31-year-old Houston native had a warrant issued against him by the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office in Texas. TMZ report that the boxer was booked on a felony charge of assaulting a family/household member.
Charlo’s mug shot is already online and circulating. His bail was set at $10,000. According to TMZ’s article the twin brother of unified super-welterweight champion Jermell remains in custody.
Jermall, unbeaten in 32 fights, is a two-weight world champion having won the IBF 154lbs title in 2015 before becoming WBC 160lbs champion in 2019. This past week Charlo has been linked to a money-spinning fight against undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez in what would be the American’s attempt at becoming a three-weight titlist.
At the beginning of this month a judge cleared Charlo of any charges following an alleged robbery incident in August. And in May 2020 he was named as a suspect in an assault investigation that took place at a party near his property in Missouri City. Charlo was never arrested or charged.
It’s been eight months since Jermall last boxed. That night at Houston’s Toyota Centre saw the middleweight champion successfully defend his title for a third time against Juan Montiel.
