The World Boxing Organisation have told parties representing Zach Parker and Demetrius Andrade they have 10 days to reach an agreement for the super-middleweight interim title fight.
Although nothing has been confirmed it seems that Andrade will vacate his WBO middleweight belt to move to 168lbs. The Rhode Islander’s plan to eventually land a fight with Canelo Alvarez involves Derby’s Zach Parker.
The Brit is the governing body’s number one contender and mandatory challenger for one of the four titles held by the undisputed champion.
In the WBO’s official letter to Frank Warren (who promotes parker) and Eddie Hearn (who promotes Andrade) it states that the minimum bid to be lodged should be $300,000. “Any of the parties involve may request a purse bid procedure at any time during the negotiation process,” it went on to say.
Warren told Boxing Social this week he hopes to bring Andrade to the UK to fight Parker which would represent the second fight overseas for the American. In 2017 ‘Boo Boo’ travelled to Germany and won the WBA super-welterweight title having beat Jack Culvay by split decision.
Initial plans in 2022 for the unbeaten Parker had been to return to Derby in a homecoming bout before aiming for a shot at Canelo.
The WBO has also ordered Zhanibek Alimkhanuly and Esquiva Falcao to contest their middleweight interim title in the meantime.
