Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia came face to face for the first time since announcing what could be the biggest fight of 2023.
Two two undefeated young stars are putting their records on the line on April 22 in Las Vegas, and made it official at the New York presser for the event.
After being respectful of one another and talking up the magnitude of the bout, ‘Tank’ and Garcia came went head-to-head for pictures – and the trash talk started.
Davis, who has 26 knockouts in 28 fights, was talking at Garcia, 19 from 23, as the encounter heated up. Once off the stage, the Baltimore fighter told FightHype what was said.
“That he soft. He said that he wasn’t, I said that he was … I think he just wanted to get out the way.”
Davis’ words stick with his theme of claiming that Garcia doesn’t belong in the ring with him when it comes to mental fortitude, however ‘King’ Ryan disagrees.
In fact the 24-year-old believes that Davis and his team put as many stipulations in place as they could in order to tempt him from swerving the scrap.
He revealed a rehydration clause on top of the already-tight catchweight. Garcia is much more accustomed to fighting at 140lb, so the contracted 136 is going to be more than a little uncomfortable.
Only 10lb will be allowed to be gained between the weigh in and the morning of the fight, when the rehydration check will take place.
Despite the hurdles, Garcia said that he put the sport of boxing and its fans first when signing on the dotted line, and still believes he can leave the ring victorious.
