Terence Crawford was the undisputed welterweight champion for all of four months before being stripped of one of his belt.
The Omaha native put in a stellar showing against previously undefeated Errol Spence Jr to claim all four titles at 147 – the second division he has achieved such a feat – and put himself firmly in the conversation for the best fighter of a generation.
Spence has activated his rematch clause for a second crack at Crawford and, with that in mind, the IBF has stripped him of its belt since he cannot fulfil his mandatory obligation against Jaron ‘Boot’ Ennis.
There are plenty of opinions on how quickly the sanctioning body acted compared to other situations, and ‘Bud’ himself has said ‘f**k them.’ Regardless, Ennis has now been promoted from Interim Champion to Champion.
That’s not stopped him looking to challenge Crawford, who he accused of ducking him.
“Bud had opportunities to fight me (and still do) but you rather them strip you and give me the title instead of me taking it from you cause you don’t wanna fight me that bad. That stunt you pulled see through.”

Crawford has a different story, claiming Ennis was in fact the one who avoided the fight.
“Everyone I know y’all loving Boots right now and that’s good, I’m happy for the young guy. But chill on the I’m ducking him part. Boots had two opportunities to fight me and chose to go a different route. So chill, let the kid make his mark in the sport.”

Crawford is expected to fight the rematch and then move onto another division in search of further world titles.
