WBA Regular featherweight champion Xu Can is set to defend his title against Nottingham’s Leigh Wood on July 31 in London.
Xu has not fought since his unanimous decision win over Manny Robles III back in November 2019, while challenger Wood captured the British 126lbs title with a ninth round stoppage of Reece Mould in February.
“Whatever opponents I have to fight and wherever I need to be, my goal is always the same-that is to bring the belt back to China,” Xu told China Daily.
“Now that the Briton wouldn’t dare to leave his home, I will come knocking on his door.”
Xu was long in discussions for a showdown with then-IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington last summer, before the Covid-19 pandemic derailed any plans for the pair to meet in the ring.
The WBA Regular title holder now looks set to fight on British shores against Wood, who is ranked number 12 by the World Boxing Association.
