Zhilei Zhang is a heavyweight on the up who seems intent on keeping his name in the headlines – this time having a pop at one of his rivals, claiming he ‘couldn’t beat anyone’.
Zhang has catapulted himself into world title contention by twice knocking out previously unbeaten and highly rated Brit, Joe Joyce.
The 40-year-old is the current WBO mandatory challenger and knows the clock is ticking on his career. He only has interest in fighting the biggest names in the sport, having previously called out Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk.
It’s the WBC champion who Zhang has taken a shot at after he edged a split decision victory over former UFC star, Francis Ngannou.
Speaking to freebets.com, Zhang was far from impressed with Fury’s performance and can no longer see him beating ‘anybody.’
“Based on the performance over the weekend, I don’t think Tyson Fury can beat anybody. Definitely not Usyk, not me, not Joshua, he’s not right.”
Before the fight, most gave the boxing debutant no hope of getting the better of the man plenty regarded as the number one heavyweight on the planet, but now some feel he even did enough to get his hand raised.
A lot of the pre-fight talk was about the signed undisputed fight against Usyk, which was originally planned for December 23. Given the tough night Fury endured against the MMA champion, his promoter, Frank Warren, has now ruled out the clash taking place on that date but insists it will happen in early 2024.
