Zhilei Zhang has called on heavyweight world champion, Tyson Fury, for less talk and more action.
‘Big Bang’ Zhang is fresh off a career-best win over Joe Joyce in London – one that saw his name mentioned as a potential next opponent for Fury.
That idea was halted by Joyce – who was stopped in the sixth round due to an increasingly injured eye courtesy of Zhang’s left hand – activating his rematch clause.
The pair are expected to run it back in September, the same month that Fury is desperate to have a fight. Opponents seem few and far between though, despite plenty of public offers.
The WBC Champ has attempted to reignite talks with Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua – both of whom have other plans – and his team are now seemingly going down the list to find a dance partner.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Zhang said Fury’s various call outs have been lies.
“He should stop lying to people and he should stop telling fake stuff to boxing fans. It’s damaging the world of boxing. I really believe that actions speak louder than words. Instead of saying you are going to fight this, you are going to fight that, just get in the ring.”
At 40-years-old, Zhang will be angling for a title shot as soon as possible should he beat Joyce for a second time, and that might just turn out to be Fury.
It’s claimed that the Brit will be receiving an offer in the coming days to face Usyk in Saudi Arabia this December to crown an undisputed champion.
Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, has confirmed that they’re planning a September bout before that.
