Ricky Hatton Willing To Fight Rio Ferdinand – “I’ll Make A Comeback And Fight Him”

Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton is ready to get back in action.

The 39 year old former World champion, an avid Manchester City supporter, officially retired back in 2012 but is seriously contemplating a one fight comeback against the ex-Manchester United player now turned boxer, Rio Ferdinand.

Though Hatton doesn’t have an ideal track record when it comes to comebacks.

After getting knocked out by Manny Pacquiao in 2009, Hatton stayed out of the ring for three years until fighting one more time in 2012 against Vyacheslav Senchenko. ‘The Hitman’ got knocked again – a sure sign to hang ’em up for good.

Currently, Hatton spends his time training other fighters, most notably 11-0 heavyweight prospect Nathan Gorman.

But there might be another comeback looming for Hatton.

When attending a recent charity event, Hatton spoke about Ferdinand. The polarizing footballer decided to take on the challenge of professional boxing at a very late stage of his athletic career. This garnered some criticism from the boxing purists but Hatton feels the former professional footballer will do justice to the sport.

“Rio’s a great lad and a boxing fan and he wouldn’t have taken it up if he wasn’t going to give it a go and do it justice,” told Hatton according to Worldboxingnews.net.

Apparently, Hatton is more than willing to fight Ferdinand.

“I’ll make a comeback and fight him,” proclaimed the Manchester native.

The 39 year old former footballer has posted plenty of training clips as he is currently being filmed for his ‘Defender To Contender’ series.
