Former professional boxer Andy Vences was arrested in Miami after authorities accused him of leaving the scene of a serious accident. Officials say the incident involved a young woman who suffered a head injury.
Investigators with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the crash happened Saturday around 7 p.m. The location was near Miami Marine Stadium in Biscayne Bay. According to reports, a 21 year old woman was swimming when a personal watercraft struck her.
Authorities allege Vences failed to stop and help the victim. He also did not call emergency services. Officials described his actions as leaving the scene without rendering aid.
Soon after, officers gathered video footage and spoke with witnesses. That evidence helped them identify Andy Vences as the suspected operator of the watercraft. Law enforcement later contacted him by phone.
During that call, Vences allegedly admitted he was involved in a boating crash. He agreed to meet officers at his hotel, the Dua Miami. Officers arrested him at that location without incident.
Police then transported him to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Prosecutors charged him with one felony count tied to leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.

Officials later confirmed that Vences posted bond set at $7500. He is scheduled for arraignment on June 3, according to court records. Vences does not have an attorney at this time.
During bond court, prosecutors referenced prior legal issues. They said Vences had previous arrests in 2013 and 2014.
Authorities have not shared the identity of the injured woman. They also have not provided an update on her current medical condition. However, officials confirmed she suffered a head injury during the incident.
Miami-Dade County Area Captain Rafael Almagro addressed the case in a statement. He said, “There is no excuse for leaving the scene of an accident.”
He added that officers acted quickly to apprehend the suspect and ensure accountability.
Andy Vences, now 34, once fought under the banner of Top Rank Boxing. Known by the nickname El Tiburon, he built a reputation as a durable competitor. However, he stepped away from the sport in 2023 after four consecutive losses.
If convicted, Vences faces up to five years in prison. The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to review evidence and witness accounts.
