Argentina’s Alan Chaves made a thunderous impression in his U.S. debut and first appearance under the Matchroom Boxing banner on Saturday night, April 25, stopping Miguel Madueno in brutal fashion in the third round of their co-main event clash at the Fontainebleau Resort & Casino. The bout served as the co-feature to Lenier Pero vs. Jarrell Miller.
The unbeaten Argentine preserved his perfect record with a devastating knockout performance, once again showcasing the defining weapon in his arsenal: elite level punching power. Chaves is a serious power puncher, and he lived up to that reputation by turning out Madueno’s lights with a single, fight ending shot in round three.
Mexican veteran Miguel Madueno (31-4, 28 KOs) entered the bout with a résumé that suggested durability at a high level. Prior to this loss, he had only been stopped once, in a one-sided defeat against Oscar Duarte, and had also gone the distance with Keyshawn Davis making this a meaningful step up in scrutiny for Chaves.
From the opening bell, Chaves dictated the pace with thudding jabs and consistent body work, forcing Madueno onto the back foot. In round one, a straight left hand already signaled the danger he posed, while round two saw the Argentine continue to land clean combinations and steadily increase the pressure.
The ending came in the third round. Chaves timed the moment perfectly, unleashing a vicious left hook that dropped Madueno instantly. The Mexican was left motionless as the referee stepped in and waved the fight off without the need for a full count.
With the victory, Chaves retains his WBO Latino lightweight title and extends his unbeaten record to 22-0, 19 KOs registering his fourth successful defense of the belt.
More than just a win, the performance served as a clear statement in his debut in the United States and under Matchroom Boxing, reinforcing the promotional company’s belief in the Argentine as a rising force in the 135 pound division.
