One-time WBO lightweight champion, Keyshawn Davis, made a bold claim about former middleweight fighter, Conor Benn, if and when they ever come to blows in a boxing ring.
A former Matchroom standout developed as the next in line to take the baton from Anthony Joshua or Katie Taylor as a stadium fighter, Benn shocked the sport when he left Eddie Hearn earlier this year to sign for upstart fight firm, Zuffa Boxing.
The British slugger fought twice at middleweight last year, exchanging a win and a loss with long-time generational rival, Chris Eubank Jr.
And though Davis has only ever fought at lightweight through his burgeoning pro career, beating the likes of Jose Pedraza, Denis Berinchyk, and Jamaine Ortiz, he is yet to fight anyone who has fought in a division as high as Benn.
Regardless, he seems to expect easy work if he ever were to fight Benn.
“I will stop Conor Benn.”
— Keyshawn Davis on ‘Inside The Ring’
“I guarantee I will stop him,” Davis added. “Easy money. I would love to fight Conor Benn. When I move up, I would love to fight Conor Benn … give me Conor Benn. I’m stopping him for sure.”
Davis has more immediate tasks at hand, like rematching Nahir Albright whom he fought in 2023, beat by majority decision, but later saw the Texas commission overrule the result by changing it to a No Contest. The unfinished business with Albright is set to be complete May 16 at the Scope Arena in Norfolk.
And, following that fight, Davis could continue his campaign at super lightweight, against Shakur Stevenson, Teofimo Lopez, or Richardson Hitchins, or move to welterweight for that Benn bout, or a fight with Devin Haney.
‘The Dream’, Devin Haney, is, after all, a fighter Davis had tagged as a potential foe if he ever were to move up.
But, really, he “will fight all of them,” he said.
Davis, though, still has his favorite. “You’re talking about who I want to pick and fight? I will fight Conor Benn’s short ass. He is little. Like, I’m taller than him. He’s got little T. rex arms. He’s not hitting me.
“Let’s be real, at the end of the day, I’m probably not on his radar, but honestly, these fighters don’t want to fight me, bro. They know that I’m very dangerous. They know I really mean what I say. I talk a lot, I sell and I also back it up. I’m a lot to deal with, even leading up to the fight.”
