Canelo Alvarez Invites Jaime Munguia to Join His September Card Following Win Over Armando Resendiz

Jaime Munguía delivered one of the most complete performances of his career to dethrone Armando Reséndiz and capture the WBA super middleweight title, earning a clear unanimous decision this Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, in the co-feature bout of the card headlined by David Benavidez vs. Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez.

From the opening bell, Munguía looked sharp and composed. He began to separate himself in the second round, finding his range and landing with authority in close exchanges. Reséndiz had his moments, but was never able to sustain consistent offense.

Working under the guidance of Eddy Reynoso, Munguía mixed his attack well to the body and head, dictating the pace and controlling the fight with a clear edge in hand speed and punch output. By the midway point, he had taken full command of the action.

As the rounds progressed, the gap became more evident. Munguía maintained steady pressure without sacrificing defense, and in the closing rounds continued to land with power, shutting down any attempt at a comeback from the defending champion.

Reséndiz showed toughness in the final exchanges, but the outcome was no longer in doubt. Munguía closed the fight with authority, managing his lead until the final bell.

The scorecards (117-111, 119-109, and 120-108) left no room for debate, reflecting Munguía’s dominance from start to finish. With the win, the Mexican returns to the top of the sport six years after his reign at 154 pounds, now as a two-division world champion.

Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez was ringside and entered the ring after the fight to congratulate his stablemate.

Canelo also told Chava Rodriguez of ESPN KnockOut that he plans to invite Munguía to be part of his September 12 card in Riyadh.

“We’ll talk to Munguia and see if he wants to be on my Riyadh card in September,” Canelo said.
