Talk surrounding a potential showdown between Daniel Dubois and Moses Itauma has only intensified following Dubois’ latest heavyweight title victory, with many fans and Pundits already debating how the matchup would play out.
Dubois recently added another major achievement to his career after defeating Fabio Wardley to become the WBO heavyweight champion. The victory immediately sparked speculation over future opponents, with Itauma quickly emerging as one of the names most frequently linked to the newly crowned champion.
Reports have suggested Itauma could eventually become Dubois’ WBO mandatory challenger, potentially setting up one of the biggest all-British heavyweight fights in recent years.
Now, former world champion Carl Froch has shared a more cautious view on the potential matchup.
Carl Froch still sees question marks around Daniel Dubois
On his YouTube channel, Froch praised several aspects of the heavyweight champion’s game and acknowledged the improvements he has shown.
“He is big, strong, nice solid jab, a tidy fighter,” Froch said.
The former champion also credited Dubois for repeatedly showing durability in difficult moments.
“He can take a punch when he has to,” Froch explained.
However, Froch admitted he still has some concerns.
“But he does choose to go down every now and then,” he said. “There is almost a question mark around his desire and his heart and whether or not he has got that grit.”
Despite the criticism, Froch acknowledged that Dubois continues proving people wrong.
“It is difficult to say whether he can reign, but he is a two-time world champion and now WBO world champion.”
Froch believes Dubois could reveal a lot about Itauma
While Dubois still faces questions in Froch’s eyes, the former champion also believes the fight could become an important test for Itauma.
According to Froch, if the contest eventually gets made, Dubois would likely become the hardest challenge of Itauma’s career.
“So maybe we will find something out there,” Froch said. “We are going to find something out about Itauma.”
Froch then explained why he believes Dubois would provide a completely different challenge for the unbeaten heavyweight prospect.
“If this fight gets made, it will be the first time that he has been in with someone who can actually punch really hard and is very tidy.”
For now, however, a Dubois versus Itauma showdown appears unlikely to happen immediately. Promoter Frank Warren recently revealed that a rematch clause exists for Dubois’ fight with Wardley, while Eddie Hearn has publicly stated he expects Wardley to use it and pursue another shot at the heavyweight title.
Meanwhile, Itauma already has his next outing planned. The unbeaten heavyweight is set to return on August 8, 2026, headlining a Queensberry Promotions card at The O2 Arena in London.
Although no opponent has officially been confirmed, Warren revealed that Itauma is expected to face a top-10 ranked heavyweight contender.
With Dubois potentially tied up and Itauma moving toward another step-up fight, fans may have to wait a little longer before the highly discussed all-British heavyweight clash becomes a reality.
