Ronda Rousey returned to the cage in a historic fight one decade after her supposed retirement. However, what many expected to be a decently lengthy back-and-forth lasted only 17 seconds. Rousey submitted Gina Carano in what headlined yesterday’s Most Valuable Promotions’ MMA card on Netflix. The event marked the first partnership between the MMA and the streaming giant.
Rousey appeared decisive and completely in control throughout the event. Considering her legendary status and ten-year hiatus, the fight stirred much anticipation across the MMA world. Minutes after the fight, Rousey opened up on an emotional text UFC CEO Dana White sent her ahead of her fight with Gina Carano.
What Dana White told Ronda Rousey before MVP MMA fight
Rousey said that White texted her hours before the fight, giving his goodwill for the historic event. In what appears to be an answer to White’s blessing, Rousey ousted Carano within 17 seconds. It was so brief that many fans began to itch to see her return to the cage for longer bouts. However, Rousey already announced before the fight that this was her last fight. Among other things that surrounded the event, Rousey appears grateful someone as prominent as White was part of her win.
“He texted me this morning, wishing me luck and saying he hopes Gina and I kill it. I told him how much it meant to hear that from him.
He’s been an incredible friend to me, and honestly, I’m here because of him. I’ll always be grateful, and I really appreciate him giving me his blessing to go out and do this on my own.”
The 39-year-old isn’t as excited about winning trophies as she is about building a family, however. Days before the fight, she opened up on a new dream. She wants to raise her home, and probably have more children. She reportedly got permission from her husband and sister to revisit the cage on a last attempt. Meanwhile, Nakisa Bidarian, MVP’s CEO, has said the promotion is open to any decision Rousey makes.
