Women’s MMA legend Ronda Rousey stunningly returned to MMA last night. She swiftly submitted Gina Carano in the main event of Most Valuable Promotions’ first MMA card on Netflix. Considering her victory came ten years after her previous fight, the victory is even more impressive.
Rousey looked inevitably sharp, decisive, and completely at home from start to finish. Yet, she already announced earlier that the fight would be her last. Following the victory, “Rowdy” reflected on her career and touched on a controversial perspective on her UFC title loss.
Ronda Rousey explains why losing her undefeated record helps the division
During the post-fight press conference, the 39-year-old MMA legend describes her UFC loss in a positive light. According to Rousey, Amanda Nunes’ unbeaten streak into retirement reportedly cost the division its existence. Her take, which aired on Most Valuable Promotions’ X handle, has since stirred debate across the UFC world.
“This is much better than if I retired undefeated. I don’t think I truly understood it until I got into pro wrestling and realized – if you retire with the title, you take all the equity with you.
That would have hurt the division if I did that. I think that’s part of the reason the UFC’s 145-pound women’s division disappeared after Amanda retired. The division needs to be passed on.”
Rousey ousted Carano within 17 seconds, and the short victory has some fans hoping for her return. Fans may have wanted to see her break a sweat, trade punches, and probably fight her way out of danger. However, none of these matters to Rousey, who says she wants to have one or more babies. Meanwhile, Nakisa Bidarian, MVP’s CEO, has said the promotion is open to any decision Rousey makes.
