The reigning WBC heavyweight titleholder Tyson Fury is set to battle with Oleksandr Usyk, who holds the IBF, WBA, WBO, and Ring Magazine titles, in another monumental night for the Riyadh season.
The Gypsy King dominated Deontay Wilder in 2020 at the second time of asking in 2020 to secure the WBC championship, before successfully defending it against the same opponent in 2021.
Since then, the British fighter has overcome fellow countrymen Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora, though his most recent performance against Francis Ngannou left fans puzzled at a Fury display that simply didn’t match up his lofty words & expectations.
“It’s been 24 years since we’ve last had an undisputed heavyweight world champion,” Fury commented. “And we know that the Klitschkos were champions for about ten years, so there’s been another 14 years where other heavyweights couldn’t stop it. So we’ve been chosen. And I believe we’re both destined to be here. And there’s only one winner: I’m destined to become undisputed champion.”
Usyk is looking to clinch the undisputed champion title for the second time, having already achieved this feat in the cruiserweight division. The Ukrainian beat Anthony Joshua twice to maintain his current unified champion status.
Despite some big controversy surrounding his last bout with Daniel Dubois, he’s steeling himself what’s arguably his most significant challenge to date.
“I want to tell a story that looks very similar to our story with Tyson, about David and Goliath,” Usyk said. “When the Lord gives me Tyson in my hands, I will do my job.”
This is the fight we have waited years for – and it’s nearly showtime!
