Boxing Social spoke to newly emerged heavyweight contender, Jack Massey, who is set to make his heavyweight debut against, former world champion, Joseph Parker on the Chris Eubank Jr vs Liam Smith card.
Massey goes into the fight as a huge underdog, but believes that may well work in his advantage.
Joseph Parker has fought in the U.K. on seven previous occasions, yet this will be his first fight on an undercard in the UK. Massey thinks Parker could be in for a rude awakening if he’s underestimating him:
“I think that he thinks it is going to be an easy night. I think he thinks that he is just going to go out, stop me early and get me out of there. I think that is very dangerous, if he is thinking that.”
If Massey was to beat the former WBO heavyweight champion, he insisted that he has no intentions of fighting at a lower level and challenging for domestic titles. Instead Jack ‘One Smack’ was clear that his focus would be on continuing to face the elite level of heavyweights and go on to fight another ‘top ten’ opponent:
“Beating a top ten heavyweight, you can sort of look for another top ten heavyweight. We won’t be stepping back down from that fight, there is other big fights there to be made in the top ten. So we will be calling some names out, 100%.”
After a difficult 2022 outside of the ring, Massey now has the opportunity to show that he can mix it with the big boys.
Massey went on to speak about his trainer switch as well as his intentions after the fight with Parker.
