Murat Gassiev’s trainer, the renown Abel Sanchez who also spearheads the professional career of the undefeated, world middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1) has discussed the upcoming cruiserweight WBSS final.
Murat Gassiev will face off with the tournament’s top seed and 2012 Olympic Gold medalist, Oleksandr Usyk on May 11th.
That bout is expected to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Gassiev is fresh from stopping Cuba’s Yunier Dorticos this past weekend. In a match-up which pitted undefeated punchers against one another, Gassiev adopted a calculated, methodical approach in that fight.
Abel Sanchez has claimed his charge will not be taking the same approach in the final given the different style he will face.
“Against Usyk we’re not going to be allowed to let him get too far ahead because this is a guy who is very talented, gold medalist.”
“He’s a different type of fighter than Dorticos.”
Sanchez shared that because Uysk doesn’t possess the same one punch power as Dorticos, Gassiev will be less hesitant and more insistent on being aggressive from the get-go.
“We’re not going to fear so much the power – or be aware of it, I should say.”
Sanchez shared it will be crucial to not let Uysk find his rhythm.
He stressed that Usyk is very good at dictating the terms of the action during a fight, that is something they will have to negate.
“He can go on like a machine for 12 rounds, throwing pitty-pat punches and just keep you out of your game plan and keep you away from doing any damage.”

“So we have to make sure we don’t allow him to get on a roll,” said Sanchez.
As for when Gassiev will return to Big Bear to prepare for this fight, Sanchez told BoxingScene.com – “He’s got a plane ticket for the 5th of March, right now.”
