Recently Groves said that he did get the best of Junior ‘constantly.’
“We used to spar and I used to steady his legs constantly with right hands and that was way back in the day when I would only throw a few shots around and would move from rope to rope,” said Groves.
Another person present at those sessions was notable trainer Adam Booth, who shared some more insight into what happened in the ring between Groves and Eubank Jr.
Apparently, the sparring was evenly matched as both fighters managed to hold their own but Booth does remember one particular shot that stunned Eubank Jr.
“There’s only one occasion I can recall when one of them was slightly hurt. That was, ironically, when George caught Junior with a left hook and Junior appeared to be stunned,” said Booth in an interview with Boxing News.
Was it that left hook shot that started something between Groves and Eubank Jr? Could be, according to Booth who coached Groves for six years.
“There was definitely something that happened in that spar because of that left hook. That was probably one of the last spars they had,” he told.
Booth then added:
“They did an average of six rounds each time and I’d guesstimate they did that on 30 different occasions. But it might be closer to 50.”
Both fighters have not pulled any punches verbally leading up the World Boxing Super Series semi-final clash on Saturday. Groves has plans to hurt Eubank Jr and the IBO champion has every intention of returning fire.
“I am not for one second taking him lightly.
“Junior definitely has a good engine but as soon as I hit him, I am going to hurt him and put him away,” said Groves according to World Boxing News.

Eubank Jr believes the WBA World super middleweight champion’s gas tank won’t last for 12 rounds.
“Groves will not last 12 rounds. He should enjoy the last days with that WBA belt because on Saturday I’m going to take it and proceed to the final.”
