Next month’s mammoth undisputed welterweight clash between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr appears to have split fans, the media and fighters alike down the middle with regards to who is going to emerge with the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF world titles
Odds makers have also struggled to separate the two Americans, with Crawford the slightest of favourites at the time of writing.
On a recent podcast appearance, Crawford revealed he had partaken in an exchange with four-weight world champion, Adrien Broner, who Crawford said bravely told him straight to his face he believes ‘Bud’ will be defeated by Spence in just over a month’s time.
“Broner kept it G and I’ve got to respect him.
He said ‘I’m cool with you, but I’m cooler with Spence and I think he’s going to beat you.’
He told me that to my face.”
In a previous interview Broner said the clash would turn into a war.
“It’s going to be a crazy chess match, but a war! They’re going to fight to death, they are going to fight the s**t out of each other.”
After years of failed negotiations, playing the blame game and causing the boxing public to pull their hair out, Spence and Crawford finally agreed a deal to settle their differences in the ring and, more importantly, establish who the best 147lber on the planet is.
The two pound for pound stars will lock horns at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 29th, when all the speculation and debate will finally reach it’s end – until a contractual rematch clause is inevitably invoked.
However, social media went into overdrive in May when the legacy defining bout was officially announced, leaving the boxing world unanimously counting down the days.
