Dave Allen has spoken out about what he perceives to be injustices in who gets to fight who at the top level.
Allen is no stranger to taking on big challenges and often threw himself into the deep end and stood in the away corner throughout his career.
The popular Doncaster man known as ‘The White Rhino’ was a Sky favourite for many years and took on the likes of Dillian Whyte, Luis Ortiz, Tony Yoka, Lucas Browne and David Price amongst many more.
He is currently sits with a record of 21 wins from 29 fights, and was last out with a loss to Frazer Clarke. He’s been open about building up to big domestic fights once more.
Speaking to BBTV before Daniel Dubois took on Jarrell Miller on the Day of Reckoning Card in Saudi Arabia in December, he had some forthright views about the contest, in particular on Miller because of his history of failing doping tests.
“Miller is an awful man. He shouldn’t be boxing. The fact he is still boxing is incredible. Four years ago, bang to rights, all that in his system.
He beat Lucas Browne and now he’s boxing Dubois for six figures, maybe seven. If he wins definitely seven next time. How is it fair? How is it even possible? My love of boxing waned because of this.”
He went on to talk about the impression it gives to others in the sport.
“Myself and other boxers, clean athletes, are sat here, and he’s over there. It leaves a sour taste in your mouth.
I don’t understand how he is still boxing. He could be clean for four years but if he’s been taking steroids for years before that he’ll still be getting the benefits now.”
He then said boxing doesn’t cover itself in glory by allowing former drug cheats to box again on such high-profile shows.
“Boxing just shoots itself in the foot. A show of that magnitude, it says to boxers on the way up take all the drugs you want, get banned and come back and earn millions.”
