Amanda Serrano may have a fight scheduled for just a fortnight’s time – but she’s already looking ahead.
The Puerto Rican seven-weight world champion suffered a split decision defeat at the hands of Katie Taylor in April at Madison Square Garden.
Serrano, who returns to the New York venue on August 6 against Argentina’s Brenda Carabajal (18-5-1, 9 KOs) in a defence of the IBO, WBC and WBO world featherweight titles, has pressing matters to deal with on the same card as Jake Paul’s next fight against Hasim Rahman Jr.
Carbajal won the WBO interim championship in her last fight, a 10-round majority decision victory over Debora Dionicius (32-4, 6 KOs) in May in San Lorenzo, Argentina.
But sooner rather than later, the 33-year-old would like another shot at Taylor and the Bray lady’s WBA, IBF, WBC and WBO titles in the lightweight division as she looks to avenge her only loss of the past 10 years.
In a recent interview with BoxingScene, Serrano said:
“I would go to Ireland.”
“It doesn’t matter where they want to fight. But right now, I need to defend my titles.”
Boxing Social understands that Serrano (42-2-1, 30 KOs) was offered a rematch against Taylor in the immediate aftermath of their showdown earlier this year and turned it down in favour of having another fight before going back in with ’KT’.
Eddie Hearn, Taylor’s promoter, is said to have been disappointed with that decision, having held initial discussions with the powers that be regarding potentially doing the fight at Croke Park stadium in Dublin.
Serrano went on to say:
“Katie’s a warrior.”
“She never backed down from any competition or anything. So, I think she wants the rematch.
“We want the rematch and I think it’s a great matchup because we put on a hell of a show. We showed that both of us can fight.
“We put butts in seats at The Garden, we sold it out and it was an exciting fight.”
