The undefeated, former 2-time world super welterweight world champion, Demitrius Andrade is looking to put the major players in the middleweight division on notice after making the move up to 160 lbs in his last fight.
Andrade has suffered frustrating periods of inactivity which have only seen him fight twice in the last eighteen months. Andrade is looking to put that all behind him and stamp his mark on a thriving middleweight division.
Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin and their respective teams have been at loggerheads while trying to agree to a rematch. Demetrius Andrade has now looked to take advantage of the delay by suggesting he could be ready as an alternative opponent for Golovkin in the first quarter of 2018.
Andrade started by explaining, his intention is to get back in the ring as soon as possible.
“There were discussions about December and that got prolonged. I want to get back in the ring, I want to make things happen.”
Andrade shared that he would like to agree a lucrative match-up with Golovkin in the first quarter of 2018. Andrade explained he would need a few months to acclimitise correctly to his new weight class before taking on Golovkin.

“Unfortunately it won’t be this year, but hopefully, we can get back in the ring in February or March. If a fight with Golovkin can happen, that would give me plenty of time to put on the proper weight.”
We made a decision to stay at 160lbs, so now I can start building to be a full-fledged middleweight.
A fight with the menacing middleweight kingpin would be a daunting proposition to some, but ‘Boo Boo’ Andrade while acknowledging ‘GGG’s ability, shared he would be unfazed by taking on the best in the division so soon.
“Why not have my second fight against one of the best of the weight class?,” Andrade told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.”
“Every year I believe is my year, it’s just about who is willing to get in the ring with me and fight. I can’t break out unless I’m active;” Andrade added.

“I think HBO with the talent that they have and the amount of fighters, that they have in the weight division, they can make a lot of fights happen. This can definitely help me become that guy,” Andrade said.
Demitrius Andrade began his foray into the middleweight division when he took on Alantez Fox in New York in late October.
Andrade secured a wide decision in his favour against Fox. The fight was however, not smooth sailing for Andrade though because he looked sloppy and not as fluid as he once did.
Andrade even suffered a knockdown in that fight, this coming after a below-par performance in his final fight at 154 lbs against Jack Culcay has led some to believe he is in the twilight stage of his career and on the decline.
Like Andrade has explained, 2018 will look to be a pivotal year in his story.
