Andy Lee Breaks Down Joseph Parker-Zhilei Zhang: “He’s Very Difficult”

Joesph Parker’s trainer has broken down what he thinks will happen when his charge comes up against the on-form heavyweight Zhilei Zhang on March 8.

The fight is on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua versus Francis Ngannou card in Saudi Arabia and will mark a return to a successful recent hunting ground for Parker.

Last time he was there was the Day of Reckoning on December 23 when he earned a historic upset win against big-hitting American former champion Deontay Wilder.

Parker boxed well and to strict orders to get the job done relatively comfortably over 12 rounds. That set up this contest with Zhang, himself coming off two breakout wins over Brit Joe Joyce in 2023.

Lee has now spoken to Boxing Social about how the pair felt after their latest win.

“We’re both addicted to the chase. I asked Joe how he felt after the Wilder fight when he came to Dublin. I’m happy we won of course, but I think it’s the lead up, the unknown, the challenge. When you overcome it you want something else.”

That now comes in the form of Zhang, another huge test.

“Zhang is a very difficult opponent, I think he’s the most difficult out there in the division for anybody. Joe’s up for it, he’s shown he can fight to a game plan, we have a good game plan for Zhang.

“Maybe not as obvious as everyone thinks but Joe is right on form. Activity has been a huge benefit to Joe in his resurgence.”

One keen onlooker will be Joe Joyce, who recently admitted that he will be on Parker’s side during the contest.
