Andy Ruiz Jr has ramped up the pressure on Deontay Wilder to face him next with a slick poster design depicting the two doing battle.
The Mexican heavyweight is coming off a decision victory over Luis Ortiz – a man Wilder has stopped in the ring not once, but twice. In the other corner, Wilder just ended his comeback fight in one round with a viral knockout of Robert Helenius.
Off the back of both results, the World Boxing Council has stated they must fight next should they want to keep their high rankings.
Now that the governing body have ordered the two PBC-promoted fighters to face one another in a final eliminator for Tyson Fury’s title, there really is nothing standing in the way of a genuinely intriguing heavyweight battle. Both former-champions on the rise once more, fans will be eager to see how the speed of Ruiz can deal with Wilder’s famous power.
Ruiz Jr seems to be feeling confident, and his team is calling for the fight at every opportunity. Alongside this new poster on his Twitter account, he added the message ‘It’s coming’ beside the hashtag ‘God first.’

Whilst the heavy hitter from Alabama certainly isn’t shying away from the fight, he does seems to be the less eager of the two – perhaps favouring the talk of facing Anthony Joshua or Oleksandr Usyk instead. Usyk holds all of the heavyweight titles other than Fury’s WBC, and has expressed an interest in facing Wilder.
However, with Fury and Usyk targeting an undisputed bout early next year, it seems this is the best option for both men to guarantee a shot at the winner and a return to heavyweight glory. With both likely looking forward to a quiet Winter before getting back in the ring not long after the turn of the year, we can expect an announcement on the fight’s status relatively soon.
