Anger Over Devin Haney-Vasiliy Lomachenko Scorecards: “He Must Explain It”

Devin Haney retained his undisputed lightweight championship against Vasiliy Lomachenko by unanimous decision victory – but most fans had the contest much closer than the judges.

The big question going into the fight was what did Lomachenko have left at 35 years-old and he answered it emphatically – plenty.

It was a close fight from the opening bell to the last with the majority of the rounds hard to call. Haney attacking the body of Lomachenko throughout the fight but the Ukrainian landing on the American with the more eye catching shots to the head.

Boxing Social had the fight as a draw on our unofficial scorecard, but with so many close rounds a marginal victory either way can be argued.

But one scorecard has angered fans and pundits alike. Lomachenko undoubtedly had his best round in the 10th, landing a flurry of clean shots and pressing the pace throughout.

Yet somehow Dave Moretti found a way to score if for Haney, with fans confused by that decision: ‘Moretti gave the 10th to Haney?’, ‘what’s he playing at!’ echoed across Twitter.

Legendary boxing analyst Teddy Atlas went one step further, saying he should be ‘brought in front of Commission to explain.’

“Someone told me that Dave Moretti gave 10th round to Haney, if that’s true he should be brought in front of Commission to explain.”

Boxing writer Jake Donovan said Moretti could ‘ride off into the sunset’.

“I respect the fact that there were A LOT of close rounds in this fight and agree w/ Andre Ward that it wasn’t a robbery. But Dave Moretti can take that “Rd. 10 Haney” score and ride off into the sunset.”

Shakur Stevenson stepped into the immediately ring after the fight, and made it clear he thought Lomachenko had done enough by landing the cleaner shots.

He looks the most likely option next for Haney, with the 25 year-old believing ‘The Dream’ ‘isn’t on his level’.
