Anthony Fowler has weighed on the huge upcoming fight between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn this weekend – and the Liverpudlian believes Benn could be in for a long night at the 02.
Fowler told Boxing UK that he envisages a comfortable evenings work for Eubank Jr – provided the weight and rehydration clause doesn’t take too much out of him.
“If he can make the weight comfortably then you see a comfortable win for Eubank, he’s a lot bigger and he’s boxed at a higher level. I do rate Eubank.
Conor’s best wins, Algieri and Van Heerden, were cherry pick type wins. He blitzed them, which is good, but Eubank’s a real tough fella.”
Having shared a ring with the likes of George Groves, Billy-Joe Saunders and James DeGale, there is no denying Fowler’s view that Eubank Jr has been in with the higher calibre of opponents so far.
The question regarding weight and how it will affect Jr has been the main talking point of this fight, with Eubank adding fuel to the fire by posting videos of him indulging in various treats – most recently at the famous ‘Salt Bae’ restaurant.
And, speaking from his own experiences of weight cutting, Fowler believes Eubank Jr is doing himself no favours – if he’s actually eating the food.
“If he’s doing that he must be f***ing off his head! To make weight I would diet for 14 weeks before and wouldn’t eat one bad thing.
If he’s doing that and making the weight then f***ing hell – Conor Benn’s in trouble!”
Eubank will have to make a career low weight of 157lbs at 33-years-old and then not rehydrate above an agreed weight by 11am the next morning – said to be around 10lbs.
