Dominic Ingle has weighed in on a potential fight between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder, and believes it would be a “very difficult” task for ‘AJ.’
Joshua and Wilder are tipped to lock horns in Saudi Arabia this December, on a blockbuster bill that could also feature an undisputed world title fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
And when asked for his two cents on the fight by Boxing King Media, esteemed trainer Ingle did not appear to have much confidence in the Brit.
“The way Wilder is, he’s reckless when he fights – and Anthony Joshua isn’t. He’s got the reach, he’s got the recklessness, he’ll throw caution to the wind, he’s got the power and he’ll get off the floor and he’ll fight.”
“He’s also boxed Tyson Fury three times, something Joshua hasn’t done. So you’ve got to give him full credit for how he is.”
“I think it’d be a very difficult job for Anthony Joshua to beat Deontay Wilder.. very difficult. I don’t think he has the ability to.”
‘AJ’ had been scheduled to fight in July, potentially against old rival Dillian Whyte, but these plans now seem to have put on the back burner in order to avoid risking the mammoth payday on offer from Skills Challenge Group.
Eddie Hearn did not rule out the possibility of his golden goose having a tick-over fight in the summer, but conceded it would not be against a top class heavyweight if the Wilder fight was confirmed.
‘AJ’ is no stranger to boxing in Saudi Arabia, with the country playing host to his successful rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr back in 2019, as well as his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk last summer.
A figure around £300 million is said to be on offer as the total purse for the show, which would make it the richest in the history of prize fighting.
