Anthony Joshua caught up with Sky Sports to cast his opinion on Deontay Wilder as an opponent.
Joshua broke down what he would need to do when he collides with ‘The Bronze Bomber’ following evaluating his last performance against Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz this past weekend.
Wilder scored a tenth round stoppage against the respected and previously undefeated Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz.
Furthermore, Joshua added that he still intends to lock horns with Fury first, following his clash with Joseph Parker on March 31st.
Joshua still says that Fury is his intended target in what would be the biggest fight in British boxing history. The matchup would have huge ramifications as a domestic clash that could potentially split the U.K.
Joshua is of the belief that Fury represents a much sterner test because there are many challenging factors in that matchup. As opposed to a single one in Wilder’s right hand in that respective matchup.
But on the topic of ‘The Bronze Bomber’, Joshua confirmed he is very much still looking forward to testing himself against him and acknowledged the Alabama native’s ‘powerful punch’.
“Wilder, I think would be next [after Fury], and just for the sheer fact that his record proves he has a powerful punch,” Joshua said.
But Joshua shared his view that Wilder is actually a very one-dimensional fighter whose power is limited to a straight right hand.
“But his powerful punch doesn’t come with an uppercut, it doesn’t come with a peached left hook.”
“It just comes with a straight right hand;” Joshua commented.
Joshua went on to explain his gameplan against Wilder will be to disarm him.
‘AJ’ says he will look to take the right hand away from Wilder and that will gradually cause Wilder’s confidence to ebb over the course of the fight.
“So you eliminate one or two of his main weapons and I think, you know, you kind of chip the tree down with Wilder. I think he starts losing his confidence,” Joshua concluded.
