In a recent interview with *The Stomping Ground*, Eddie Hearn, the renowned promoter of Matchroom Boxing, revealed the plans for the return of former world champion Anthony Joshua. Although an official date has not yet been confirmed, Hearn made it clear that Joshua will be ready to step back into the ring in May or June 2025.
According to Hearn, the most likely opponents for his next fight would be the current IBF heavyweight world champion, Daniel Dubois, or Tyson Fury.
During the interview, Hearn denied any serious injury that could significantly affect the boxer.
He also emphasized that minor physical issues are normal for a heavyweight over 30 years old.
Eddie Hearn was questioned about the fans’ interest in a fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
According to the promoter, this is the natural fight and the most lucrative one for both boxers. “Tell me this: Tyson Fury has a choice—20 million to fight Daniel Dubois or double that to fight Anthony Joshua. The natural fight is AJ against Tyson Fury,” Hearn stated.
He also added that, whether they like to admit it or not, Anthony Joshua remains the biggest draw in boxing today.
For Hearn, a clash against Tyson Fury would represent the biggest event of the year, both in terms of fan interest and financial gain.
The promoter made it clear that he has no interest in a fight against Martin Bakole, describing it as an option that does not bring the expected financial value.
“Not in a million years. How far down the list do you think Martin Bakole is? He’s a very good fighter, but he brings no value to the table financially. You have to understand this is a prizefighting business,” Hearn explained.
“Daniel Dubois just beat Anthony Joshua at Wembley. What’s the one thing Daniel Dubois and his team will be saying? ‘Show me the money,’” noted Hearn.
“You can’t generate that against Martin Bakole, even though he’s a very good fighter. He’ll need to get himself into a mandatory position. I believe the purse bid with Agit Kabayel is next week,” Hearn stated.
Eddie Hearn made it clear that Anthony Joshua remains a key player in the boxing world, despite recent losses and questions about his physical condition. The promoter is confident that his fighter will return to the ring better than ever, ready to face the best in the division.
Fans eagerly await the announcement of his next opponent, hoping to finally see the long-anticipated showdown between Joshua and Tyson Fury.
