In the past, there have been heavyweight champions who like to talk the talk and walk the walk. Comments from champions are not always subtle and pleasant, but so far Anthony Joshua has managed to keep his cool before and after fights.
Talking to ESPN, Joshua answered the interesting question of would he be more popular if he was ‘unpleasant’.
“I am who I am. The good thing is that’s what I said with the Klitschko fight, we weren’t flipping tables, we weren’t shouting, we weren’t effing and blinding. The stage was set and we always deliver. In that ring is where we deliver,” answered Joshua.
Like Joshua, Klitschko was also known for keeping his composure. The two heavyweight greats certainly delivered back in April and ‘AJ’ is looking to give the public another memorable and entertaining world title clash against Carlos Takam.
“We may not be the most entertaining outside but trust me when we get in there… that’s what I’m saying with Takam. I know his style and I’m ready to trade with him. It’s annoying for Rob [McCracken, Joshua’s Trainer] because he probably knows I could just keep it long and whip a few hooks every now and then but I think I’m gonna stand on the inside with him,” promised Joshua.
Despite Takam being a late replacement, the heavyweight champion insists that his style will make the fight memorable and exciting.
“It makes it more interesting and they’re memorable fights. It’s not just a ‘tick of the list’ fight, it’s a memorable and exciting fight.”
