Anthony Joshua has gone from strength to strength since teaming up with trainer Ben Davison, and he is now set to be joined in the gym with a fighter dubbed as ‘the future of the heavyweight division.’
Moses Itauma has quickly become one of the most talked about prospects in the United Kingdom, with many fans and fighters alike heaping praise on the youngster.
He has carried his amateur success into the professional ranks, scoring eight wins and six knockouts in an extremely active 13 months since his debut.
Itauma even set himself an ambitious goal of becoming the youngest ever heavyweight world champion, attempting to eclipse the illustrious record of Mike Tyson.
At just 19-years-old, he is already considered to be one of Britain’s top heavyweights but he has now followed in the footsteps of Joshua and appointed Davison as his trainer, as he seeks to make the next step in his career, Pro Boxing Fans reports.
The performances of ‘AJ’ have seen a marked improvement since teaming up with Davison, rediscovering his killer instinct of old to knock out both Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou in eye-catching displays, which has rightfully seen Davison receive plaudits and recognition as one of the country’s top trainers.
Considering rumours of Itauma’s success in spars against Joshua, Tyson Fury and Joe Joyce as a teenager, coupled with his accolades as an amateur, the link-up with Davison could be the beginning of a formidable team.
If reports are true, Itauma will fight under Davison for the first time when he travels to Saudi Arabia to fight on the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk undercard in Riyadh on May 18th, where he will fight German power-puncher Ilja Mezencev (24-3).
