This week it was confirmed that Turki Al-Alshikh had requested to extend the capacity for the upcoming ‘Riyadh Season: Wembley Edition’ event headlined by Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, in the hopes of eclipsing the attendance record at the venue and in the country. Today, that request has been approved and the potential attendance has been revealed.
A two-time champion, Anthony Joshua will top a bill at the national stadium for a record third occasion, with Frank Bruno the only other fighter to feature in a main-event at Wembley Stadium more than once. Here, ‘AJ’ will hope to become boxing’s fifth three-time heavyweight champion, and his resurgence back to the peak of the division has got many fans convinced that another Joshua reign is on the horizon.
However, Daniel Dubois has manufactured a resurgence of his own over the last twelve months, bouncing back from a stoppage defeat to Oleksandr Usyk to score consecutive knockout wins against Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic – the last of which saw him crowned IBF interim champion.
That interim belt was then upgraded to the full world title, after Usyk’s decision to vacate the strap and now Dubois finds himself in a lucrative position, defending his belt against the poster boy of Great Britain and possibly of boxing as a whole, in a battle between two of the most in-form heavyweights on the globe.
Consequently, demand for what will be a third all-British heavyweight title affair in as many years is at an all-time high and tickets for the fight night have now sold out.
Yet, seeking to break records and leave an imprint on the sport, Al-Alshikh has sought to go one better than the clash between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte, which housed 94,000 spectators. Now, he has told social media that his request for additional seating has been approved, meaning the extended capacity for the card will now be 96,000.

As has been the case with many of the Saudi kingpin’s cards since his emergence in the world of boxing, Al-Alshikh will be hopeful that the vast majority of the fans in attendance arrive to witness the undercard, rather than appearing solely for Joshua’s clash with Dubois.
To provide further incentive to enter early, Al-Alshikh has provided a stacked card that features a featherweight world title showdown between Anthony Cacace and Josh Warrington, a salivating crossroads middleweight bout involving Liam Smith and Josh Kelly. Meanwhile, there is a WBO interim title light-heavyweight grudge match in Josh Buatsi vs. Willy Hutchinson, and also a European middleweight title contest featuring Tyler Denny and Hamzah Sheeraz.
The blockbuster bill is scheduled to take place on September 21st at Wembley Stadium, and will be available to watch live on DAZN PPV.
