Last night in Arlington, Texas, Jake Paul defeated former recking machine, now 58-year-old Mike Tyson. Post-fight, Paul called out Canelo, suggesting the pound-for-pound star needs the money. However, recently turned undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev has himself incredibly offered to fight the former YouTuber.
Since the fight was first announced, concerns over the ethics of this taking place have been talked about by many within the entire sporting ecosystem.
Fortunately despite many fearing Tyson would be knocked out, he managed to navigate the rounds to finish on his feet.
This could have been because there were only 8 2-minute rounds and both fighters were wearing 14oz gloves, which significantly is 4oz more than a usual glove, allowing punches to be greater absorbed.
Moreover, while Paul did say “He must die,” after Tyson slapped him at the weigh-in, to his credit he did not look to stop the legendary fighter, instead he only threw a small number of combinations.
It is not clear why this was the case, however, this could have been because of a potential pre-fight agreement.
Yes, the victory does technically mean that Tyson has suffered a professional defeat to Paul, nevertheless, everyone knew it was not the ‘Iron Man’ that the world had become accustomed to over those many years.
The stock of Paul therefore does not really change and a fight with his arch-rival KSI, could be edging nearer.
Despite this, astonishingly Artur Beterbiev has offered to give Paul a shot at his WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO light heavyweight world titles.
On Beterbiev’s Instagram account he posted a story saying, “Jake Paul what can you do in the ring against the current undisputed champion? Just know that I’m always open to any suggestions.”
Beterbiev has said that he has no problem fighting Paul and has even suggested that he would quite like to fight the American.
Nonetheless, it is expected that we will see a rematch between himself and Dmitry Bivol next.
If it is anything like the first fight then boxing fans are in for another treat.
As for Paul, it is unclear yet when he will be returning to the ring, and who the opponent will be.
