Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez has weighed in with his prediction for the Canelo Alvarez vs Gennadiy Golovkin trilogy fight this weekend – and is envisaging an emphatic win for the Mexican this time around.
Rodriguez, who will defend his WBC Super Flyweight title against Israel Gonzalez on the undercard, told the DAZN Boxing Show he believes an early stoppage victory for Canelo is on the horizon.
“I feel like Canelo is going to take him [Golovkin] out early – you’ll see!”
The 22-year-old is not alone in his views. Unlike the first two bouts between the two, Canelo is a clear favourite in the eyes of many for the trilogy fight, with observers pointing to Golovkin’s age and inactivity over the past few years.
Whilst the pair’s first two encounters were at middleweight, this time they will face off up at 168lbs – where Canelo holds all four major belts. There is a view that this too will favour Canelo, with ‘Triple G’ having never fought at super middleweight before.
Despite Golovkin being hard done by in the eyes many in at least one of their two prior meetings, the Kazakh’s record against Canelo officially stands at one draw and one loss, so one would imagine his motivation this time round will be at an all time high.
Fans in the UK and US can tune into the historic trilogy fight between two of the great fighters of this generation live on DAZN PPV.
