Barry McGuigan has slammed his old foe Carl Frampton once again, claiming that the two-division world champion would not have enjoyed the success that he did in the ring, without his help.
McGuigan began promoting ‘The Jackal’ in 2009 through his outfit ‘Cyclone Promotions’ and guided the Ulsterman to world title success at both super-bantamweight and featherweight in 2014 and 2016, beating Kiko Martinez and Leo Santa Cruz respectively.
However, Frampton split from McGuigan in 2017 after a proposed hometown clash with Andres Gutierrez was called off and ever since Frampton and McGuigan have been bitter enemies, resulting in a court battle between the two men.
Now, ‘The Clones Cyclone’ has hit back again, claiming that he didn’t take a penny off of the now 37-year-old until he won the Commonwealth title in their eleventh fight together, in an interview with The Times.
“I didn’t take a penny off him for over two years [until] he won the Commonwealth title. That is it. We’ve gone on. Shane has produced champion after champion.
“He [Frampton] can say what he wants but he knows he could not have achieved anything without me or my family and the work that we put into him.”
Frampton and McGuigan settled their multi-million-pound legal battle in court back in 2020, although it appears that their feud will never be settled, as the pair continue to take digs at one another seven years after the split.
